Yesterday I had a very enjoyable shoot with the beautiful Nicole Hinson who is currently the 2014 Face of Kent. I shot most of the shoot on film using a Nikon FA for 35mm, Pentax 67 for Medium Format and the Speed Graphic with Kodak Aero Ektar lens for Large Format.
The image below was shot on 4x5 with the Speed Graphic and Aero Ektar, shot wide open at f/2.5 for the very shallow DOF! With the SG and AE combination I am unable to use flash, so I built a homemade ring light consisting of ten 40w household bulbs.
The ring light is controlled via a dimmer switch and gives a beautiful light similar to a beauty dish. Personally I love the ring light catch light, but there are many who do not like it, as it is deemed to look unnatural.
The image below was shot on Kodak Tmax 100 and the ring light metered f/2.5 at 1/25th, the SG's nearest shutter speed was 1/30th. I developed using ID-11 (1+1) for 10.5 mins this was done continuous rotation on my Jobo CPE2.
I am slowly but surely getting to grips with the shallow depth of field of the Aero Ektar and is quickly becoming my go to camera for portraiture in the studio or on location!
Once again thank you to Nicole for a fantastic shoot and looking forward to working with her again very soon.
